Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center
The Tobacco Cessation Program offered at Hillcrest uses the curriculum from the American Lung Association. All of the instructors that teach the classes are certified though the American Lung Association. This program is available for anyone in the community, so Baylor students are welcome to participate. The cost of the program is $30 per person, and the entire program lasts seven weeks. Participants meet once a week for an hour and half at the Getterman Wellness Center of HWY 6 and Bosque, and they meet two times on the fourth week because this is when they schedule there quit date.
Shawn Hernandez (SHernandez@hillcrest.net, 254-202-3800) is willing to discuss the possibility of having a class specifically for Baylor students.
Scott and White Healthcare
Scott and White offers "Enuff of the Puff" a "Freedom from Smoking" program. According to the CDC, combining counseling with nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) or smoking cessation medications significantly increases the chances of long-term success. Therefore, in addition to the toll free numbers and on-line resources, Enuff of the Puff offers tobacco cessation group counseling through the American Lung Association's Freedom from Smoking (Tobacco) Program.
The Freedom from Smoking (Tobacco) is a seven-week session that was created by the American Lung Association to aid tobacco users in quitting. Classes are held once a week for seven weeks except for week four, which has two meeting times. Students must attend every session. Classes are comprised of 15 students and facilitated by Scott & White Wellness staff. The program is available to all community members at the cost of program materials ($30).
